Tour instead of a banquet
On September 20, Andrei Derzhavin celebrates his 60th birthday. The creator of the group “Stalker” is one of those musicians for whom anniversary concerns occupy much less time than the concert schedule. Fortunately it is still very rich.
“I’m not interested in any nostalgic interviews at all,” Andrey answered ZD’s call, which is quite expected in the case of an artist for whom music, among other things, has also become a rejuvenating agent. The new life of the Stalker group, one of the legends of the eighties and nineties, began five years ago. Pandemic bans have taken a toll on the tour schedule, but now Derzhavin and his team regularly appear on stage again, causing the public to experience a rush of nostalgic feelings.
The routine journalistic question, what is the phenomenon of this musician, is devoid of any meaning, as is the case with everyone who was able to write songs with an impressive shelf life. It has long been known that a lucky coincidence of circumstances, without which there is no success in pop music, must live in perfect harmony with real musical fanaticism, which helps to break through any walls.
As a schoolboy, who first approached the Soviet electric organ and soon began performing at dances, Andrei apparently realized that music was the most interesting of all possible activities for him, and the complete absence of cronyism and patronage did not frighten him at all. However, no one has ever been able to buy people’s love through connections. Such romances can only be sincere, and if the songs of “Stalker” were not loved, it is unlikely that a group from such a small town as Ukhta would have managed to jump on the carousel of perestroika show business and spread throughout the country.
Andrey, of course, can consider himself a lucky person. His fate was clearly not greedy when it came to meeting the right people. At the institute, he met the disc jockey and aspiring poet Sergei Kostrov, with whom many of Stalker’s hits were co-written. Unexpectedly, at the invitation of the Philharmonic, Komi found himself on the big stage and until the very end of the 90s, together with the group “Stalker”, traveled throughout the former USSR, giving several concerts a day, at the same time moving from Ukhta to Moscow, where in the end everything also worked out .
Years later, an unexpected invitation to become the keyboard player of the “Time Machine” plunged Andrei Derzhavin into the world of rock and roll passions for almost twenty years, and then “Don’t Cry, Alice”, “Alien Wedding” and other hits were heard again in the original performance. And we must admit that the chorus of people singing along, consisting of the voices of representatives of several generations, is becoming louder. This means that the great musical adventure continues.
The MK team, congratulating the birthday boy, remembers very well the incendiary sets of “Stalker” at the “Sound Track” festivals and is sure that we will all sing again.
