The National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT) announced this Thursday the ban on preparation, fractionation and national marketing of an artisanal creamy cheese under the Lácteos Roma brandas reported in the Official Gazette.
Through provision 934/2024, the organization, which is part of the Ministry of Health, based this measure on the need to “safeguard the health of citizens.” The ANMAT classified cheese as a “illegal product” due to the lack of registration, which prevents guaranteeing its traceability, production conditions and quality with adequate control levels according to current regulations.
Additionally, the ANMAT received the recommendation from the Department of Food Regulations of the INAL to prohibit the preparation, fractionation and marketing of said product throughout the country, including online sales platforms.
In another measure, the public entity also vetoed a product for aesthetic purposes, specifically a brand of Polydioxanone tension threads. The ban covers the use, marketing and distribution of all lots and sizes of Polydioxanone tension threads from the Hebei Shangju Technology brand throughout the national territory.
Aesthetics at risk
The ANMAT argued that there are similar products duly registered and authorized for the treatment of sagging, sagging, tissue loss, correction of wrinkles and lack of skin tone on the face and body. The lack of information about unauthorized products represents a health risk, since its true composition and manufacturing conditions are unknown.
In this context, the ANMAT Market Control Department proposed the prohibition with the aim of protecting potential buyers and users of products whose origin, safety and effectiveness are unknown. The ANMAT concluded by emphasizing the importance of this measure to protect the health of consumers in the face of the uncertainty associated with these unauthorized medical products.
