Another package catches fire in the DHL warehouse – Russia again suspected

by times news cr

An air freight package caught fire in Leipzig. A Russian attack is suspected behind this. Now it turns out: It couldn’t have been the only attempt.

First Leipzig, now Birmingham? As the English newspaper “The Guardian” reports, the British anti-terror police also suspect an attack by Russia behind a burning package. The package caught fire in a DHL warehouse in the city of Birmingham in July. No one was injured and the local fire department was able to quickly extinguish the fire.

The package was said to have been on a plane shortly before, although it is not yet known whether it was a cargo or passenger plane. In any case, a fire during the flight could have had serious consequences.

At the beginning of the week, such a case also became public in Germany (you can read more about it here). The German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Thomas Haldenwang, reported during a public questioning in the Bundestag about a burning air freight package in the DHL logistics center in Leipzig in July. It was only thanks to a lucky coincidence that the package was still on the ground and not caught fire during the flight, says Haldenwang.

In security circles it is assumed that the incident is related to Russian sabotage – similar to the Birmingham case. According to The Guardian, authorities are now investigating a potential connection between the two fires.
