Apple Accused of False iPhone Waterproof Data

by time news

A class action suit has been filed against Apple in the New York State District Court over data on the water resistance of the iPhone, according to Appleinsider. Plaintiffs allege that Apple misrepresents the water resistance data of its smartphones in marketing and advertising campaigns.

The lawsuit states that real users who were at the sea or by the pool may void the warranty even with a short-term immersion, since the water contains chlorine or salt, and all laboratory experiments for compliance with the degrees of protection are carried out with clean water. Complainants believe Apple is misleading customers, resulting in additional cash costs. Apple is being asked to pay damages to victims in New York State and to change iPhone descriptions.

This isn’t the first time Apple’s claims about water resistance have been criticized. In November 2020, the Italian antitrust authority fined Apple 10 million euros ($ 12 million) on charges that the company misled consumers by exaggerating information about the waterproofing of smartphones, but at the same time waived warranty coverage for liquid damage to devices.
