Apple to cut production of iPhone and AirPods due to situation in Ukraine

by time news

Apple has adjusted plans for the production of iPhones and AirPods due to military operations in Ukraine, Nikkei reports.

According to the publication, citing its own sources, the American electronics manufacturer has already notified its suppliers to reduce the production of iPhone SE and Apple AirPods by about 20%. Due to lower-than-expected demand from Apple, 2-3 million fewer smartphones and 10 million fewer headphones will be released during the quarter.

Apple also asked suppliers to release 2 million fewer smartphones across the entire iPhone 13 lineup than previously planned, but the company explained this decision by adjusting for seasonal demand.

According to the Nikkei, Apple’s problems are related to economic sanctions against Russia, the disruption of supply chains, problems in the oil, energy and raw materials markets, as well as concerns about the demand for expensive electronics amid rising inflation.

On February 24, Vladimir Putin announced the start of a military operation to “denazify and demilitarize” Ukraine. Western countries have already introduced several packages of tough sanctions in response, and foreign companies have begun to leave the Russian market en masse. In particular, Microsoft and Panasonic suspended their activities in Russia, while Apple, Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and a number of other companies stopped deliveries.
