Apple Unveils MacBook Pro With First Ever OLED Touchscreen

Apple unveiled a redesigned MacBook Pro lineup on October 28, 2026, introducing its first laptop with a tandem OLED touchscreen, M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, and up to 24 hours of battery life. Pre-orders are open now ahead of a November 6 release.

PROLED XDR Technology Enables High Brightness and Touch

The physical transformation relies on an advanced tandem OLED architecture branded as PROLED XDR. This display technology combines multiple light-emitting layers to achieve high brightness alongside precise per-pixel control, hitting 1,000 nits of sustained full-screen brightness and a 2,000-nit peak in HDR content while scaling down to just 1 nit for dark-room editing.

Software adaptation accompanies the hardware change. macOS translates finger taps into standard clicks as a fallback for existing software, while updated frameworks allow specialized touch interactions across professional applications. Graphic designers can sketch directly across the workspace, musicians can manipulate software faders with their fingers, and developers can test mobile app touch mechanics directly on their laptop screen without switching devices.

M5 Pro and M5 Max Processing Power and Physical Redesign

Beneath the new display, the laptops run on Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max silicon. These processors provide high single- and multithreaded CPU performance paired with unified memory scaling up to 128 GB and solid-state storage reaching up to 16 TB. According to technical specifications, the hardware supports multiple video streams and local execution of large language models.

The physical chassis is thinner and lighter than previous generations, aided by the removal of separate backlight layers required by older mini-LED screens. The 14-inch model weighs 1.38 kilograms (about 3 pounds) and measures 1.5 centimeters thick, while the 16-inch version weighs 1.8 kilograms (about 4 pounds). A redesigned thermal architecture maintains sustained performance under heavy loads while directing warm air away from the screen, and a new hinge mechanism provides extra mechanical stability to counteract finger pressure during touch use.

Connectivity options include three Thunderbolt 5 ports, an HDMI port, an SDXC card slot, a MagSafe charging connector, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.

MacBook Pro Pre-Orders Open with Tiered M5 Pricing

Pre-orders for the new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display opened on October 28, 2026, across 30 countries and regions, with physical availability in retail stores and authorized resellers beginning on Friday, November 6. In the United States, the 14-inch model featuring the M5 Pro starts at $2,899, while the 16-inch M5 Pro version starts at $3,399. Models powered by the M5 Max start at $4,499 for the 14-inch configuration and $4,799 for the 16-inch variant. European pricing reflects regional taxes, with the 14-inch M5 Pro starting at 3,399 euros and the 16-inch version at 3,949 euros, while M5 Max configurations begin at 5,249 euros and 5,649 euros respectively.

Apple’s OLED MacBook Pro Has A Huge Catch

Apple stated that the production process supports its corporate goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its entire operational footprint by 2030. The enclosure utilizes 100 percent recycled aluminum, the battery incorporates 100 percent recycled cobalt, and multiple internal capacitors employ 100 percent recycled tantalum.

Alongside the performance hardware, Apple confirmed that the glowing Apple logo on the laptop lid has returned after being phased out during previous redesigns. Battery endurance reaches up to 24 hours depending on workflow, supported by fast-charging capabilities that restore up to 50 percent capacity in 30 minutes. Existing non-touch MacBook Pro models remain in the product lineup as alternative options.
