Apple is working on developing a set of new features for people with special needs in the next version of its iOS 18 operating system and macOS 15, amid expectations that they will be revealed during the company’s annual WWDC 2024 developers conference in June.

According to leaks published by MacRoomers, the company is working to provide updates to features that are already present in the operating systems of its smart devices, in addition to a number of new features that will arrive for the first time with the upcoming operating system versions by the end of this year.

The report indicated that one of the new features will be the Adaptive Voice Shortcuts feature, which will allow Apple device users to specify a specific phrase to activate or disable an Accessibility feature.

The report explained that the new feature will support control over various ease of access features, such as VoiceOver, Voice Control, Zoom, and others.

One of the new features that Apple is working on, according to the report, is the Categories feature within the Live Speech application, which allows the user to create tabs with names chosen by the user, so that within each of them are kept phrases that the user writes so that he can use them in different situations.

For example, a user who is speechless, or who has difficulty speaking, can create a tab dedicated to the phrases he usually uses in stores or restaurants. Once he enters those places, he is able to interact in a more natural way through the phrases he has stored.

The leaks also revealed that Apple is working on a feature to control the font size of texts within various applications on Mac computers with the upcoming macOS 15 release, where the user will be able to control the font size of texts within certain applications, so that he will have a more comfortable use experience.

With the release of macOS Sonoma, Mac users can control font size within a limited number of apps, such as Calendar, Finder, Mail, Messages, and Notes.

While the new report confirms the arrival of support for this feature within new applications, such as the Books application, the News application, the Stocks application, the Tips application, and the Weather application.

Some sources also confirmed that Apple is working on making it possible to change the font size in the Menu Bar in the next macOS version, but there is no confirmation of its official arrival.

The American company, according to the report, is working on a large number of other new features to facilitate access, such as providing features that rely on eye movement tracking technology that is processed locally on Apple smart devices.

Mark Gurman, technical editor at Bloomberg, also reported during his weekly publication, PowerOn, expectations about the arrival of advanced features with iOS 18 that will make AirPods supported by a dedicated mode that enhances the hearing capabilities of the hearing impaired.

Apple is working on developing the next generation of AirPods by providing them with new features such as measuring body temperature, and has also decided to change the charging port to USB-C.

It is noteworthy that Apple has a long history with hearing enhancement features for iPhone users. In 2018, it introduced the Live Listen feature with iOS 12, which relies on using the iPhone’s microphone to pick up sounds from the user’s surroundings, strengthen their sound waves, and broadcast them to the AirPods.

In 2021, it also introduced the Conversation Boost feature, which uses the iPhone’s microphone to capture sound waves coming from in front of the user, while he is wearing AirPods Pro headphones, so that the speaker’s voice clearly reaches his ears, and the conversation goes smoothly and naturally.
