Apple users are asked to update their computers for a critical vulnerability

He National Cryptological Center has reported a security advisory on Apple due to a vulnerability that affects products with operating systems iOS, iPadOS, and macOSand has recommended users to update their equipment.

The cybersecurity notice is published as of today on the website of the National Cryptological Center, which classifies it with a “critical” level of danger. Apple has already released an update to its operating systems and has also advised updating affected devices.

The vulnerability, which has been reported by a anonymous researcherallows arbitrary code to be executed on the target system – for example, the cybercriminal could install and open a malicious program without the user’s consent.

The vulnerability could have been actively exploited in targeted attacksaccording to the same source.

The reported issue affects versions prior to 13.4.1(a) of macOS; to versions prior to 16.5.1 (a) of iOS; and to versions prior to 16.5.1 (a) of iPadOS.

The bugs have been fixed by Apple in iOS 16.6, iPadOS 16.6, and macOS 13.5.

The CCN-CERT, from the National Cryptological Center, “strongly recommends” users and system administrators to carry out the aforementioned updates “in order to avoid exposure to external attacks and the takeover of computer systems”.

This advisory comes one month after another identified security issue at Apple.

On that occasion the National Institute of Cybersecurity (Incibe) warned -with maximum importance- of multiple vulnerabilities in different products of this manufacturer and recommended updating the latest versions of the iPhone, iPad, macOS and Apple Watch operating systems.
