Currently, European countries do not have enough capacity to increase defense production, and in order to correct this, legislation will have to be changed, says Morten Brandtzeg, executive director of the Norwegian-Finnish arms manufacturer Nammo. As Day.Az reports, he is quoted by the Financial Times (FT).

It is noted that Brandtzega’s company should soon receive government support from Norway, Finland and the EU in the amount of over €300 million, which exceeds the company’s ten-year investment. In addition, it itself invests about €150 million every year.

“In my opinion, we must increase even more [производство]. We must build it up faster. <...> We are in an industrial war for capacity,” said the head of Nammo.

According to him, the problem of capacity shortages can be solved by passing a law similar to what exists in the United States. US law allows the president to order defense companies to prioritize government contracts. This ensures companies have priority access to the equipment they need.

Previously, it was reported that the summit of EU heads of state on March 21-22 would decide on transferring the EU economy to a war footing. This was stated by the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, who noted that EU countries must spend more and purchase more weapons together and more efficiently.
