Artigas Alimentària presents an ERTE that affects dozens of workers

Around seventy workers from the meat company in Cornellà de Terri Artigas Alimentaria are affected by a ERTO agreed with the works committee and which has been effective since last April 11.

Although about seventy people are affected by the temporary employment regulation file, there are currently 11 employees who are not working, although the file contemplates that this number can be reduced or expanded depending on production needs . All those affected are employees of the pork section of Artigas Alimentària, from workers in the slaughterhouse, sorting or shipping, among others.

Fewer pigs

From the company committee and from the legal service of the company they state that the decision comes as a result of the production problems of pork derivatives. Artigas Alimentaria it has gone from killing around 1,500 pigs a day to killing almost half of them. “There is no raw material, there are no animals”, they explain from the legal service of the meat company.

For its part, the committee points out that the drop in production is a direct consequence of the diseases that affect the pig sector, together with the rise in the price of pork in recent months.

The case for temporary regulation of employment at the company began more than two weeks ago. Then 15 people were in ERTE, but “four have already returned”, report from the works committee.

The company plans to keep between ten and fifteen workers in ERTE, as has happened up to now, although it is not ruled out that this number could grow. Everything depends on how the situation evolves, they explain.

From the legal services of Artigas Alimentària, they ensure that the workers in ERTE will “rotate”, either weekly or every two weeks. That is to say that the 70 affected will not always be the same workers who will be in ERTE.

However, from the company committee they deny that this statement is true and assure that they have no evidence that the company plans to make rotations, but that the people in ERTE will simply be increased or decreased depending on the needs of the company.

In principle, the ERTE must have a duration of one year. However, the works committee assures that “if everything goes well” they hope that this situation can change once the summer has passed.

In addition, the workers’ representatives state that there is a commitment with the company to negotiate again. This will be done as long as Artigas Alimentaria exceeds 800 pigs per day. “It must be on average, that is to say, not that 800 are exceeded one day because maybe 500 are killed the next day”, explained the committee. Once this condition is met, the workers and the Girona company will sit down again to negotiate.
