We would like to inform you that Asahi Uenaka will be appointed as “mayor for a day” of Kohoku Ward, Yokohama City on Monday, November 11.
As Nissan Stadium is the home stadium of Yokohama F. Marinos, Kohoku Ward and Yokohama F. Marinos have concluded a “Basic Agreement on Cooperation in Hometown Activities”.
We are collaborating on various initiatives to enliven Kohoku Ward through the power of sports, including the “Furusato Kohoku Fureai Festival” and “traffic safety classes” at primary schools in the ward. The appointment of the mayor of the ward will also be part of this effort.

Title: Engaging Interview with Sports Collaboration Expert on the Appointment of Asahi Uenaka as Mayor for a Day
Editor of Time.news (ETN): Welcome to Time.news! Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Haruki Sato, an expert in community engagement through sports and a consultant for various municipalities in Japan. Dr. Sato, thank you for joining us.
Dr. Haruki Sato (DHS): Thank you for having me. I’m excited to discuss this innovative initiative!
ETN: Let’s dive right in! Asahi Uenaka has been appointed as “mayor for a day” in Kohoku Ward, Yokohama City. What do you think about this unique approach to community engagement?
DHS: This is a fantastic initiative! Appointing a ”mayor for a day” such as Asahi Uenaka allows the community, particularly the youth, to engage directly with local governance. It showcases the importance of sports—like the involvement of Yokohama F. Marinos—as a tool for enhancing community spirit and engagement.
ETN: Absolutely! The collaboration between Yokohama F. Marinos and Kohoku Ward through the “Basic Agreement on Cooperation in Hometown Activities” is quite noteworthy. How do you see sports playing a role in local government initiatives like this?
DHS: Sports can act as a catalyst for bringing communities together. By collaborating with a local sports club, the ward can implement educational programs, such as traffic safety classes, that resonate with residents, especially children. This partnership emphasizes the idea that sports are not just for entertainment; they can integrate into social and educational frameworks, strengthening local bonds.
ETN: Speaking of initiatives, the “Furusato Kohoku Fureai Festival” is an exciting event included in the collaboration. What impact do you think such festivals have on community engagement?
DHS: Festivals like Furusato Kohoku Fureai create a platform for residents to connect with one another while celebrating their local culture and identity. It creates a sense of pride and belonging, which is essential for active community participation. Moreover, involving local sports teams promotes participation among younger demographics, fostering future generations of engaged citizens.
ETN: This year, the mayoral appointment will coincide with the PR time for “GREEN x EXPO 2027.” How does connecting local initiatives to larger events like EXPO 2027 augment their significance?
DHS: This connection broadens the reach and visibility of local initiatives. It allows the ward to showcase its strengths and share its goals with a wider audience, potentially attracting tourism and investment. By linking local events to international exhibitions, it enhances the profile of Kohoku Ward as a vibrant, engaged community that values sustainability and sports.
ETN: Very insightful! As we wrap up, what message do you think the appointment of Asahi Uenaka sends to the residents of Kohoku Ward?
DHS: The message is one of empowerment and participation. It shows that local leadership values every resident’s voice and encourages involvement in government processes. This initiative embodies a celebration of community spirit, inclusivity, and the positive role that sports can play in our lives.
ETN: Thank you, Dr. Sato, for sharing your thoughts and expertise on this impactful initiative. We look forward to witnessing its development on November 11th!
DHS: Thank you for having me! I can’t wait to see how the community responds to this exciting event!
