STORY – Even if the king will go to Germany, the scope of this highly symbolic trip is seriously reduced.
Seen from London, this trip was important, and for three reasons. The British monarchy was reviving state visits abroad, since the last dated back to 2015, when Elizabeth II visited Malta. This was the new king’s first major trip. And it was framed by the two great European powers. The fact that the trip took place even before the coronation, scheduled for early May, was further proof of the attention paid to France and Germany. It was highly symbolic, testifying to the warming of relations with the continent after the Brexit cold snap.
