At least six people died and several more were injured this Wednesday in a shooting attack during a party in the state of Bahia, in the northeast of Brazil, according to police sources.
According to the Bahia Civil Police, an armed group broke into a party early this Wednesday in the neighborhood of Uruguay, located in the regional capital, Salvador, and opened fire on the assistants, leaving six dead, including a teenager and two women, and at least a dozen wounded.
“An armed group arrived at the place where a street party was taking place and fired several shots. There was a confrontation and about 15 people were hit” by the shots, the entity said in a statement.
Two of the victims died on the premises itself of the events, while four people were admitted to hospitals in the region but did not resist the injuries.
The other shot “remain admitted” in different health centers with various states of severity, completed the Civil Police in the note.
A police source told the EFE agency that the events occurred in an impoverished area and that it is under a strong influence of drug gangs who dispute control of the region.
He added that, despite the fact that the motives for the crime were not officially disclosed, the investigators are working with the possibility that a group of drug traffickers organized the party and the participants were surprised by the attack, which was “allegedly” perpetrated by a rival gang.
