At LFI, a representative assembly that sows anger within the movement

by time news
Manuel Bompard, deputy (La France insoumise) for Bouches-du-Rhône, at the National Assembly, in Paris, on November 3, 2022.

The representative assembly of La France insoumise (LFI)? ” I do not know. I have no information, we are the day before for the next day, I find it a bit cavalier, to put it mildly”regrets the deputy (LFI) of Seine-Saint-Denis Clémentine Autain, Friday, December 9. “Unlike you, I’m not lucky enough to be invited”replied an elected official from LFI the day before. “But where is it? Nobody knows, it’s clandestine? »asks another.

Two days before the event scheduled for Saturday, December 10 in Paris, most LFI deputies were not invited. They discovered, Thursday evening, December 8, the announcements made by the deputy of Bouches-du-Rhône Manuel Bompard to Agence France-Presse on the reorganization of the party: he himself will become coordinator of the movement, François Ruffin and d other “rebellious” heavyweights will be out of operational management, but invited into a “political advice”.

Regarding this body, potentially called upon to meet every six weeks, Clémentine Autain believes that it is“a Théodule committee created in extremis to try to hide the lack of pluralism in management”. “That there is, in the coordination, neither Ruffin, nor Autain, nor Corbière, nor Coquerel? It’s almost a purge”believes the head of the “rebellious” delegation to the European Parliament, Leïla Chaibi. “The purge at LFI is confirmed”, adds a deputy. François Ruffin, Clémentine Autain, Alexis Corbière, Eric Coquerel, deputies and figures of the party, were not in the previous “coordination”, but this had been supplanted as a place of decision by the meeting of the parliamentary group. The whole purpose of the reform undertaken was therefore to create a new structure for a movement in crisis of growth.

Risk of internal dispute

Manuel Bompard assures “the desire that all the identified figures be represented”. But, he explains, among these great figures, “nobody proposed to a pole or a sector of the movement, they sometimes evoked ideas, but did not register in the process of taking charge of tasks”. The failed will appreciate. The management defends in any case the idea of a misunderstanding linked to the fact that LFI is a movement, not a party, and being a figure of weight is not a sufficient argument to sit in the direction if it is not to do something concrete there. The argument is not always well received. “We have the impression that, for some, we have constructed criteria to exclude them, and, for others, on the contrary, we have found tasks for them”believes Leïla Chaibi.
