The World Cup qualifiers in South America resumed tonight (Thursday) with the stormy draw between the Ecuadorian team and the Brazilian team. Two more games will be played on Friday morning: Argentina, who also won the World Cup ticket to 2022, will host Chile, who are fighting for their place in the quartet (2:15, Sport1). In another game, disappointing Uruguay must win away against Paraguay (1:00, Sport2).
Ecuador – Brazil 1: 1
The Celsos had already secured their place in the next round and hoped to return to the winning track after the 0-0 draw against Argentina in the previous round. In the 75th minute Felix Torres went up great for a corner kick and slammed it in – the first time Ecuador hit the frame, with great timing for them. 3 minutes into extra time Allison hit with his fist Banner Valencia, when again the referee from Colombia ordered the point and repeated it under the auspices of the VAR. A point for each side at the end of a game that included 21 minutes of extra time cumulatively.
Chile – Argentina (2:15, Sport1)
Without Leo Messi, who has been rested from the national team so that he can recover after being infected with Corona, the Albiceleste will play an away game against Chile, who are fighting for their place in the World Cup. The host is currently in sixth place, just a point away from fourth-placed Colombia and fifth-placed Peru. The last time the Chileans beat Argentina in 90 minutes was 0-1 in 2008, as part of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni is stuck in Corona and will not join the trip to play for Chile in the World Cup qualifiers. Meanwhile, Leo Messi joined the broadcast of the national coach’s press conference on Instagram and sent a greeting to everyone. Scaloni’s assistants, Roberto Azalea, Walter Samuel and Diego Placenta, will run the game.
Paraguay – Uruguay (1:00, Sport 2)
Celeste presents a disappointing campaign, but is still completely in the picture of promotion to the World Cup. Uruguay is only a point away from fourth place, which will buy them a ticket to Qatar, and hopes to achieve only a fifth victory in the campaign, which will break a streak of four losses and five games without a win in the qualifiers.
