DECRYPTION – Most international health agencies believe that the carcinogenicity of glyphosate has not been demonstrated.

Whatever decision the Twenty-Seven make this Friday, it will cause ink to flow. Not content with being the most famous phytosanitary product, glyphosate – the active ingredient in Roundup – is also the one with the worst reputation. The herbicide is notably suspected of being carcinogenic, which has made it the center of several large-scale trials across the Atlantic. It is at the heart of the “Monsanto Papers” scandal, these documents which revealed in 2017 the unfair practices of the American firm to defend its flagship product. Even if Monsanto no longer had the exclusivity of its marketing since 2000, it was necessary not to harm the sale of GMO seeds resistant to herbicide, also sold by the company (acquired by the German chemical giant Bayer in 2018). In recent days, glyphosate has even been accused by a French family of having caused serious esophageal malformations in their son.
