Manama: An expatriate who tried to smuggle banned pills inside dates was arrested. A Pakistani youth was arrested at Bahrain International Airport for trying to smuggle Larica pills.

Authorities became suspicious of the 23-year-old man’s behavior when he arrived at the Bahrain airport. With this, his luggage was subjected to a detailed inspection. 437 capsules were found in the X-ray machine. It weighs 400 grams. The accused, who was produced in the High Criminal Court, denied the charge of drug smuggling. The young man said that he had brought the pills for the treatment of a relative suffering from diabetes. The Pakistani national told the court that the pills were given to her cousin’s wife to give to her husband in Bahrain and that the woman said they were for diabetes treatment.

The young man argued that he did not know that it was illegal to bring it into the country and that the woman had put the pills inside the dates. But the 35-year-old detective revealed to the prosecutors that the accused was hiding the pills inside the dates in a professional manner and the investigation was conducted because his behavior seemed abnormal. The trial court has adjourned the case till Tuesday.
