Aujar: The Libyan authorities should put in place a victim-centered roadmap to achieve transitional justice

by time news

The head of the United Nations Independent Fact-Finding Mission to Libya, Mohamed Aujar, said on Monday that there is an urgent need for accountability to end the rampant impunity in the country.

In the mission’s final report, Aujar called on the Libyan authorities to develop a human rights action plan and a comprehensive roadmap that focuses on victims to achieve transitional justice without delay, and to hold all those responsible for human rights violations accountable.

The head of mission noted that the Libyan government is obligated to investigate allegations of human rights violations and crimes in areas under its control in accordance with international standards.

“Aujar” pointed out that the report of the United Nations fact-finding mission indicates that the practices and patterns of grave violations continue without interruption, and there is little evidence that meaningful steps have been taken to reduce this disturbing path and provide remedies to the victims.
