Avincis Secures Major Firefighting Contract, Reinforcing Position as European Leader
Avincis, the multinational emergency air services provider, has been awarded the largest firefighting contract in Europe, solidifying its position as a leader in the field. The seven-year contract, valued at €479 million, was awarded by the Italian government and sees Avincis continue its long-standing service of managing Italy‘s fleet of Canadair CL-415 firefighting aircraft.
This contract further strengthens Avincis’ presence in Italy, a key market alongside Spain, Portugal, the Nordic countries, mozambique, and Chile. The company will manage a fleet of 18 Canadair CL-415 aircraft, renowned for their effectiveness in tackling wildfires.These aircraft also play a crucial role in the EU’s Civil protection mechanism, “rescEU,” enabling rapid deployment within 24 hours to support firefighting efforts across Europe.
Avincis boasts a robust infrastructure in Italy, with two frist-class maintenance centers in Ciampino and Lamezia, complemented by additional facilities in Genoa, Olbia, Trapani, and Naples. A team of 250 highly skilled professionals, including over 100 pilots and technicians, ensures the smooth operation and maintenance of the fleet.

The company’s global headquarters are located in Lisbon, portugal, while its operational headquarters and Spanish base are situated at Mutxamel aerodrome.
Avincis’ success in Spain is also noteworthy. In 2023,both Avincis Aviation Spain and Avincis Aviation Technics achieved profitability after experiencing losses in the previous year due to asset valuation adjustments following a change in ownership. Avincis Aviation Spain generated €6.9 million in profit on a turnover of €152.6 million, while Avincis Aviation technics earned €360,000 on a turnover of €91.6 million.
Furthermore,Avincis secured a five-year contract for search and rescue operations with Sassemar on the Spanish coasts,worth €305 million. The company’s commitment to Spain is evident in its workforce of 1,200 employees, 120 aircraft, and 90 bases across the country.
