Azerbaijan as chairman COP29 and Brazil as chairman COP30 collaborate closely on the issue of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) – a key element of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

As Day.Az reports on Saturday with reference to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, this was announced by the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov at the ministerial G20 meeting on the energy transition in Brazil.

We note that NDCs reflect country-specific efforts to reduce greenhouse gases and other emissions and efforts to adapt to the impacts of climate change.

The NDC is due to be introduced in the first quarter of 2025 in Brazil.

Shahbazov noted that high-level events held within the G20 play an important role in climate action and will influence the results of the upcoming COP29 in Baku.

“At COP29, priorities will be to agree on a new collective quantitative target (NCQG) to meet the growing financial needs of developing countries related to climate change. Also among the issues is the development of efficient carbon markets,” the minister added.

He reported on Azerbaijan’s own initiatives at COP29 – Green Energy Zones and Corridors, Global Energy Storage and Networks and the Hydrogen Declaration, which will accelerate the world’s energy transition.

“The energy transition is a process and commitment that requires individual and collective efforts. Azerbaijan is fully committed to inclusiveness to facilitate the global energy transition and is ready to work with all stakeholders to ensure a successful outcome at COP29,” the minister emphasized.
