President Ilham Aliyev‘s participation in the first plenary session of the XVI BRICS Summit “Outreach”/”BRICS+” format held in Kazan on October 24 is another manifestation of Azerbaijan’s international prestige.
Day.Az reports that Sevil Mikayilova, a member of the Milli Majlis, told Trend.
The deputy said that Azerbaijan has always acted as a worthy partner in the system of international relations and proved it in practice.
“Azerbaijan brought innovations to the activities of the organization with a number of initiatives put forward during its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement in 2019-2023, and the Movement’s reputation in the international world was further strengthened. The initiatives put forward by Mr. President Ilham Aliyev as the chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement won great support from the international community.
Expressing high value to this effective activity of our country, the Movement extended the chairmanship of Azerbaijan for another year by a unanimous decision. This decision further strengthened the trust in Azerbaijan at the international level,” said S. Mikayilova.
The deputy noted that today Azerbaijan has become one of the international logistics centers.
“Our country is implementing large-scale projects in this direction. The passage of the “East-West” and “North-South” transport corridors through the territory of Azerbaijan further strengthens the position of our country in this regard, creates ample opportunities for effective cooperation with many countries, and, in addition to its economic benefits, brings great benefits to our country. brings political dividends. Azerbaijan is not satisfied with this, considering the increase in the flow of cargo passing through our country, it invests in this field,” added the deputy.
S. Mikayilova emphasized that Azerbaijan has always made an effort to solve serious problems faced by countries at the global level.
“By hosting the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), Azerbaijan will make another important contribution to the strengthening of international cooperation in solving global problems,” added the deputy.
S. Mikayilova said that one of the highlights of the XVI BRICS Summit was the meeting between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
“During the meeting, discussions were held in the direction of establishing sustainable peace in the region, and instructions were given to the foreign ministers of both countries in this direction. Azerbaijan has always supported the establishment of peace in the region and has fully fulfilled its obligations in this direction.
Unfortunately, the real activity of the Armenian side contradicted the position of the side during the negotiations, and it was for this reason that there were obstacles to the advancement of the peace agenda. Today, Armenia needs peace in the region more than Azerbaijan. In this regard, Armenia should give up some illusions, understand the reality and take practical steps towards the establishment of peace,” the deputy added.
