Azerbaijan National Music Day celebrated in Brazil

In the capital of Brazil, the city of Brasilia, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan and the Embassy of Azerbaijan, a grand concert was organized dedicated to the Day of National Music, the country’s diplomatic mission told Day.Az.

Symphony Orchestra of the National Theater of Brazil named after Claudio Santoro under the direction of the musical director and chief conductor of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, conductor Eyuba Gulieva and with the participation of a talented tar player Sahavata Mamedova works of national classics Uzeyir Hajibeyli, Gar Garayev, Fikret Amirov, Ogtay Zulfugarov, Haji Khanmamedov, Hasan Rzayev, as well as the prominent Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos were presented.

The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Brazil spoke at the opening of the event Rashad Nowruz noted that National Music Day went down in history as the birthday of the outstanding composer, musicologist, teacher, publicist, playwright, author of the first opera in the East, founder of Azerbaijani professional musical art Uzeir Hajibeyli.

The event was attended by officials from the Federal District of Brazil, representatives of diplomatic missions and the public. Before this concert, on September 14 in Belem, the capital of the state of Pará, our musicians also performed on the stage of the Teatro da PAZ, a famous concert hall in the country.

It should be noted that in the city of Belem, which will host COP30 in 2025, a concert of Azerbaijani music is being held for the second time. Earlier, in October 2023, a talented young conductor, Honored Artist Abuzar Manafzadeh, soloist Karen Danger-Manafzadeh (soprano), Nijat Masimov (balaban) and Sultan Huseyn (nagara) performed an interesting concert program. The concerts in the cities of Brasilia and Belem were received with great interest by the public.

As part of the developing cultural exchange between Azerbaijan and Brazil, performances by Brazilian musicians in our country are also planned. Thus, as part of the ongoing XVI International Music Festival of Uzeyir Hajibeyli, on September 24, a concert will be held by the Symphony Orchestra and Choir of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater under the direction of the chief conductor of the Teatro da Paz Symphony Orchestra, Miguel Campos Neto. And this November, the Azerbaijan State Academic Philharmonic named after Muslim Magomayev will host a concert program with the participation of the artistic director and chief conductor of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, Claudio Santoro-Claudio Cohen.
