Next year will mark the golden jubilee of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and China. The 50th anniversary of the relationship between the two countries is going to start a new chapter, former director general of the Shanghai International Affairs Organization and vice chairman of the China International Relations Association, Professor Dr. Yang Chie Mian.
Recently, Yang Chie Mian came to Dhaka on a three-day visit. He expressed the said opinion in a special interview during the visit.
Yang Chie Mian said, ‘The two countries have many important areas such as political, diplomatic, economic, cultural and social relations. In this case, having or not having diplomatic relations is a big deal. Having diplomatic relations means that we can get the support of the government and the people at all levels of life.’
He said, ‘Political relations serve as the basis of economic cooperation. These guidelines, educational and social relationships guide us to progress. In the development of this relationship, these two countries and the people and society of both countries will try harder and achieve more success in the next 50 years.
Regarding the key areas for China and Bangladesh to learn, Yang Chieh Mian said, ‘There are several important areas that China and Bangladesh can learn from each other. The two civilizations have a long history. We can also work together in the field of education. Both our countries now have a very good emphasis on serving the younger generation.’
In response to the question whether Bangladesh can learn poverty alleviation strategies from China, Yang Chie Mian said, ‘China has made great progress in some areas. We hope, we can still improve. There is something here, which maybe we can tell our friends in Bangladesh.’
He further said, ‘Whatever progress we make, it should be shared among people. I think our country is very open, cooperative and friendly to the outside world. So, in the sector where there is desire and interest, we can learn from each other.’
In the context of poverty alleviation, Yang added, ‘China’s regions and provinces have different economies. Those who are ahead must create opportunities to help the poor, so that collective progress can be made. If we persist in eradicating poverty properly, we can achieve the goal.’
