Barcelona announced that striker Lamine Yamal suffered a strain in the posterior muscles of the left thigh, without specifying the duration of his absence from the Spanish Premier League leaders.
Yamal (17 years old) was excluded from the Spain squad preparing to face Serbia on Tuesday in the European Nations League, after he left the field in the third minute of stoppage time in the 1-0 win over Denmark on Saturday.
Yamal was subjected to many strong tackles from the Danish national team and was seen limping while returning to the team bus after the match.
Barcelona said in a statement on its website: “Medical examinations show that Lamine suffers from a strain in the posterior muscles of the left thigh. The length of absence from training depends on the pace of his recovery.”
Yamal was a pivotal player in Spain’s journey to win the 2024 European Championship. He scored five goals and provided five assists in the 11 matches he played with Barcelona in all competitions this season.
Barcelona is at the top of the Spanish League with 24 points, three points ahead of Real Madrid, which is in second place.
