Before top talks on Monday – Big traffic light noise about the climate – domestic politics

by time news

Now the traffic light bosses have to answer. On Monday from 10 a.m., the 21 main negotiators from the SPD, Greens and FDP will meet in Berlin.

A lot of work awaits soon-to-be Chancellor Olaf Scholz (63, SPD), Probably Finance Minister Christian Lindner (42, FDP) and would-be Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck (52, Greens).

Especially with climate policy it crashes. In the working group, the dispute escalated so much at the beginning of the week that the green negotiators, including ex-Environment Minister Jürgen Trittin (67), left the room in anger. A Green negotiator on BamS: “The FDP is blocking everything and Olaf Scholz is not committed to anything.”

Two sticking points ensure the most violent gossip:

► The Greens insist (so far in vain) that the coalition agreement says: The share of renewable energies (wind power, solar, etc.) must be 80 percent by 2030.

► The Greens want to make the construction of wind turbines a public interest. This would undermine the protection of species, with which nature conservationists often slow down the erection of the wind turbines in court. For the Greens, however, the climate change has priority, which is why this demand is central to them. SPD and FDP are still blocking each other.

The grumbling of the Greens is so great that party leader Habeck threatened the failure of the traffic light on Friday in the RBB.

Now the Greens are demanding: On Monday, the traffic light must first clarify the distribution of the ministries between the parties. “Only when it is clear who has to implement what in the government does the willingness to compromise increase,” said one negotiator.

The Greens claim the Ministry for Climate Protection and Transformation (restructuring the economy and society away from coal and gas). It is unclear whether Habeck will take on this Herculean task himself or whether he is still toying with the Ministry of the Interior. At a meeting of the Greens negotiators a good two weeks ago, according to participants, he said: With the Ministry of the Interior, the party could change society.
