BarcelonaSecretism echoed in the City Council of Cervelló, a Catalan town of less than 9,000 inhabitants that had received a call from the production company of Grand Prize. The legendary television program wanted to be the king of the summers again and Cervelló was part of its plans. For its part, the municipality of Baix Llobregat had conspired: it wanted to repeat the feat of Tordera, winner of the competition in 1998.

In the weeks leading up to the momentous election of Cervelló, all the tranquility to which its inhabitants are accustomed turned into madness. Lights, camera and action, the technicians crowded the corners of the town. The Grand Prize he had asked them for a video in which they had to explain why Cervelló was worthy of participating in the program. “The City Council reported the need to record it, but no one knew what the reason was. There were only signs saying “Do you want to participate in a well-known summer program?”, says Dani Úbeda, technician Village sports and participant of the Grand Prize.

The argument of the video did not leave anyone indifferent. The mayor came out, but it was a mixture between his position and the character of the monopoly, all characterized by a rod. In the sketch there was a panel of experts to find the contestants for the contest, but each one was worse than the last. “The athletes were falling, they were pathetic. Wow, a disaster,” continues Dani. Despite this, the mayor ended up explaining why his was the best town.

The time trial ended up paying off. Cervelló had been selected. The fight began with 7 other towns in the State: Aguilar de Campo, Alfacar, Brión, Colmenarejo, Los Montesinos, Tineo and Yepes. Once the news became known, there was a flurry of requests. “When we opened the registration, 60 people had signed up all the time and when it was confirmed, the registered people doubled”, assures Úbeda to the ARA.

The 35 elected (30 starters and 5 substitutes) had to have a young and sporty profile – according to the filter they applied to the Grand Prize– to avoid incidents in the event of a fall. Among the participants, there were some who did not know about the existence of this program because they had not been born. Others went crazy: “I almost died, I’ve always seen it as a child. I thought: ‘I wish I was there'”, explains Alicia Bullón, a participant in the competition.

They will return crazy trunks, the hot potato and the cakes and there will be no shortage of costumes either: “The baby one or the penguin one. In addition, there is a test of a diagonal ramp to climb, it will be a constant of falls. There are rumors of another challenge with trap music…”, he comments the alderman From the production company, Europroducciones, they reveal some details that have already been seen in the first two programs: “There will be a ramp to play The nursery i scale as you cana turntable for Alice in the land of caidillasthe Ki-monosan aerial gymnasium above the pool, giant fans…” In case anyone misses the mythical hands, they will be present, but not exactly in the same form as always.

In addition, that cow that became the symbol and logo of the program goes down in history. “He’s a person in disguise,” celebrates Albert Domínguez, also a contestant. Of course, that cow that gave you a rollover, as the song in the program said, will now be taken for a walk by the mayor when he activates the wild card to annoy rivals. “We will say that the style of their wardrobe will be similar to the mascots of the NBA,” continues the production company.

Despite the great expectation generated, surely the fear of not adapting is also present: “The approach is from almost twenty years ago (dances, challenges…); then they have to do a more modern program, it is the young people who they move the nets,” says Alicia Bullón. About the trials, Dani Úbeda spoke to the mayor of Tordera: “He told me that, despite bringing the best athletes, almost everything depends on luck. Wow, what if they put you sweet tooth baby while balls are thrown at you on tape, you can’t prepare for it.” What they have done is a WhatsApp group to think of spells to beat chance. “I think we can be an example to follow, and I look forward to everything can. It will be an unforgettable experience,” concludes Albert.

For now, Cervelló will look to repeat Tordera’s success and as Josep Mercader, one of the winners with the Catalan people in 1998, explains: “We returned home as if we had won the Champions League,” he recalls. Good luck
