“The Power of the Dog” (Jane Campion) and “Belfast” (Kenneth Branagh) lead the list of nominees with seven each, including in the category of director and screenwriter. Divided into studios, Netflix received 15 nominations, MGM with nine and Warner with eight leading the list.

In the “Heirs” series segment, she received five nominations and is above them all. “Morning Show” and “Ted Lasso” with four nominations each. “The Squid Game,” the successful Netflix series, received three nominations. HBO leads with 15 nominations for its various series, Netflix and Hollow with 10 each. So in fact Netflix tops the overall nomination list with 25 in total.

The film “The Dark Daughter”, produced by Osnat Handelsman-Keren and Talia Kleinhander, also won two nominations – Maggie Gyllenhaal in the director’s category and Olivia Coleman in the actress’ category.

In a strange move, it was decided to let Snoop Dogg read a large part of the list of candidates, who did a bad job and made quite a few mistakes. The reason, apparently, is the desire to forget a little about the formidable criticism against the conduct of the Foreign Correspondents’ Chamber in Hollywood, the body responsible for the ceremony. In fact, last May NBC announced it would not air the upcoming ceremony.

The decision comes after the Foreign Press Chamber has been under sharp criticism since the beginning of the year – following an investigation published in the Los Angeles Times in February. The investigation revealed financial irregularities and benefits received by cell members, along with the fact that none of the organization’s 87 members are black. Following the investigation, the union’s management said that it accepts the criticism and that it is making changes to its ranks that will encourage ethnic diversity. In May, management presented its plan that includes opening a standard for 20 new members from different ethnic minorities and restricting gifts.

Actress Scarlett Johansson even issued a statement comparing the management style of the press booth to producer Harvey Weinstein, claiming that their questions are intrusive and sexist and that for some time she has been refraining from attending their events and the press conferences they organize. “Until there is comprehensive reform in the organization, I believe it is time to take a step back from the organization,” she wrote. In addition, in an extraordinary move, actor Tom Cruise decided to return his three Golden Globe Awards in which he won for his roles in “Born on July Fourth”, “Magnolia” and “Jerry Maguire”.

In the months since, the union has added 21 new members, including six blacks, hired a new head of ethnic diversity and taken a variety of steps to correct the impression created. Despite this, many studios are still boycotting the union, and it is unclear how and to whom the awards will be handed out on January 9th.
