Karim Benzema will no longer play in the World Cup. The Ballon d’Or winner was injured during training that took place two days before the first game of the French team in the tournament and today (Tuesday) the coach of the Tricolor Didier Deschamps, officially confirmed that we will no longer see the striker on the grass in Qatar.
According to the report in the French Laquip, Benzema landed on the island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean, where he will spend a week in a “secret place” in his private rental, before returning to the training of his Real Madrid team for the rest of the season. In France it is reported that despite what was published in Spain, at no point was Benzema’s return to the national team considered.
So far the French national team is doing well even without Benzema. The world champions beat Australia 1:4 in their first match of the tournament, and then added a 1:2 victory over Denmark that secured their place in the round of 16. In the absence of Benzema, Kylian Mbappe leads the tricolor team with three goals in the tournament.
