“I am speaking to you as the current Guarantor and guardian of the current values of the M5S. Values that have disappeared in these three years. All my projects that I sent to the ‘Wizard of Oz’ were never accepted. I never got it again “, Grillo said in a video on his blog, where he appears to be driving hearse, speaking about the former Prime Minister. He then said: “If these people see this symbol being displayed by these people, it makes me uneasy. Make yourself another symbol.”
“I speak to you as the current Guarantor and guardian of the current values of the M5s. Values that have disappeared in these three years”. With these words Beppe Grillo appeared in the video announced on his blog,in which he is seen driving hearse,a few days after the re-opening of the polls for the Joint Assembly of the M5S. Then speaking of Conte he says: “All my projects that I sent to the Wizard of Oz were never accepted. he never let me come to him again. The values were promised”. The former prime minister also relies on a video on social media to respond to Grillo: “This is a proud community, which does not allow anyone to trample on it, which does not want to go for mushrooms. From Thursday to Sunday it will be Back to the voting. We will all vote together, because there are also new battles to continue, the ones you chose and voted for and those are the strategic objectives which we will all reach together to vote because from Monday we will turn the page”.
grillo: “Conte has uninstalled the M5S, I have already lost”
“less than half of the members voted, but I doubt you”, Grillo continued, commenting on the votes of the Assembly of M5S members. “You have already decided – he said – and I am already lost,I know. But I am hopeful as this Movement had an unusual identity”. referring then to Conte, he said: “The way Oz behaved was the trump card to disassociate the Movement in its identity. Conte has compulsive mirror repetition syndrome.”
Grillo: “Make yourself another symbol. It doesn’t end here”
“If these people see this symbol represented by these people, it makes me uneasy – Grillo said – Make yourself another symbol, go ahead and do yoru things. The Movement is dead,
We hope to have. We are here. I have an idea that I will reveal to you later. But it does not end here. Go and vote, or you will go to mushrooms. ‘No offense me, I know you no more, but try to think that this Movement will have a different and wonderful result, whether you are there or not.”
Grillo: “Conte suffers from a little psychosis”
“The M5S has fallen from 25% to less than half. And I am accused of being the master father. The ‘Wizard of Oz’ accused me of being the breach. From his point of view its clear he sees I like the elevated road”, said Grillo again. “He has this little psychosis,” she said. “today’s politics – he continued – must be analyzed from a neurological point of view.Because these are syndromes: he suffers from this repetitive and compulsive syndrome of mirror projection. He spends on others what he has already”.”Casaleggio and I never had the qualities – he explained - to be ministers or anything else. And then the M5S changed itself into a progressive party, with these games the DC did not even play twenty a year ago. I support your Pd candidate in liguria and Emilia and you support me with the buses and the escort in Campania.
The vote and the legal battle: both sides
The legal battle looks set to go well beyond next weekend’s vote, which will sideline one of the Movement’s two leaders: Grillo if confirmed to step down, Conte otherwise, as it is unlikely he will continue to lead the party with the cumbersome figure of the founder at his side. There is no doubt, however, that the symbol is one of the most controversial objects. Among the exes who remained loyal to the Guarantor, more than one is hypothesizing that Grillo could implement plan B in the event of a new “defeat” at the polls, starting to work to present a new force with the M5S logo in the next. elections.

What major challenges is the Five Star movement (M5S) facing that could affect its future?
Time.news Interview: the Future of M5S with Political Analyst
Editor (Time.news): Welcome to our special segment! Today,we are diving into the recent drama surrounding the five Star Movement (M5S) in Italy. We have with us acclaimed political analyst, Dr. Alessandra Rossi, to unpack the statements made by Beppe Grillo and the implications for the M5S. Welcome, Dr. Rossi!
Dr. Rossi: Thank you for having me!
Editor: Let’s start with Grillo’s bold statements. He expressed unease about the current trend of the M5S and decisively declared, “the Movement is dead.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?
Dr. Rossi: Grillo’s language is striking and clearly reflects his frustration. The M5S has indeed seen a meaningful decline in support, dropping from around 25% to less than half of that. This erosion of their voter base can be attributed to various factors, including the party’s internal conflicts and shifting political landscapes in Italy. Grillo’s declaration hints at a potential fracture within the party, suggesting that unless drastic changes occur, it may not reclaim its former glory.
Editor: he used the metaphor of the “Wizard of Oz” in reference to former Prime Minister Conte. What do you think he means by that, and how does it relate to the party’s identity crisis?
Dr. Rossi: The “Wizard of Oz” metaphor is a telling choice. It suggests Grillo views Conte as a manipulative figure, perhaps distorting the original values of the movement.Grillo’s comments imply that Conte has led the M5S away from its foundational principles, wich historically emphasized grassroots democracy and anti-establishment rhetoric. This identity crisis is crucial, as it undermines the very essence that attracted voters in the first place.
Editor: Grillo also mentioned, “Make yourself another symbol.” What does this suggest about the future of the M5S as a political entity?
Dr. Rossi: This suggestion for a new symbol indicates Grillo’s call for a more significant conversion within the party. He’s essentially urging members and supporters to either reassess their commitment to the current leadership or consider the possibility of starting anew. It’s a recognition that in politics, especially with such volatile public sentiment, reinvention could be key to survival.
Editor: Conte responded assertively, emphasizing unity among the members. Do you see this as a viable strategy, or is it merely a temporary fix?
Dr. Rossi: Conte’s emphasis on unity does provide a sense of direction, but whether this is enduring remains questionable. Moments of dissent, such as Grillo’s overt criticism, reveal underlying fractures. If Conte can effectively harness support and engage around new strategic objectives, there might potentially be hope. However, if members continue feeling misrepresented or overlooked, it could lead to further disillusionment within the party ranks.
Editor: Grillo also claimed,“Conte suffers from a little psychosis.” Such statements certainly elevate the tensions between them. What impact do personal attacks of this nature have on political discourse?
Dr. Rossi: Personal attacks can be quite damaging both for the individuals involved and the party as a whole. Such rhetoric not only distracts from substantive policy discussions but also fosters a antagonistic surroundings. In the long run, this can alienate voters who prefer civil discourse and principled debate. If internal conflict continues to play out publicly, it could culminate in a loss of credibility for M5S.
Editor: what do you foresee for the future of the M5S after Grillo’s public statements and the upcoming votes within the party?
Dr. Rossi: The road ahead for the M5S is certainly rocky. If Grillo’s discontent resonates with the party members, we might witness a significant shift in leadership or ideology. On the other hand, if Conte can rally support and re-engage the base, there is a chance for rehabilitation. Ultimately, the internal votes will be telling—whether they will choose continuity or change will dictate the path forward for M5S in Italian politics.
Editor: Thank you, Dr.Rossi. Your insights have been invaluable as we navigate this complex political terrain!
Dr. Rossi: Thank you for the chance!
