This is what Stankov, who was a member of Berbatov’s team in the presidential battle for the BFS, wrote in his publication:
“Happy 100th anniversary of Bulgarian football and BFS! The event was remarkable – critically important guests, glamorous atmosphere and serious organization.I am not surprised because there are still capable people there.
However,I cannot fail to point out one serious omission. Dimitar Berbatov, who many media claimed had refused to attend, was not invited at all. in addition, the names of our greatest football players after Hristo Stoichkov – Dimitar, Stiliyan and Martin – were not even mentioned.
We all expect change, but wiht this mentality, we’re unlikely to see it anytime soon.”
During the ceremony itself, in which names of the most deserving in the history of the national team were mentioned retrospectively over periods of 20 years, in the part surrounding Bulgaria’s last ranking at a major forum – Euro 2004, the name of the #1 scorer in the history of our representative team was not mentioned. As well as that of the match record holder Stiliyan Petrov.
