Nitish Kumar has a long political experience as an MLA, MP, party leader, Union Minister and Chief Minister.

1951 March 1: Born at Bakhtiapur near Patna.

* Completed Electrical Engineering and joined Power Board. Then he entered politics.

1975: Joined Jayaprakash Narayan’s struggle against the Emergency.

1985: Elected as an independent MLA in the assembly elections.

* Became the Yuva Lok Dal party leader in 1987.

1989: Became Bihar general secretary of Janata Dal. Election to the Lok Sabha for the first time. Then select 5 consecutive times.

*In 1989-90 Union Agriculture Minister in VP Singh’s cabinet.

* In 1994 he started the Samada Party with George Fernandes.

* 1998 – 99 : Minister of Railways in the Vajpayee Cabinet.

2000: First time Chief Minister of Bihar. Due to lack of majority, he lost office in 7 days.

2003: Joins Samatha Party, IJT, with.

2005: 2nd time Chief Minister on behalf of BJP alliance.

2010: Third term as Chief Minister.

2013: Breaks 13-year alliance with BJP, protesting Modi’s announcement as prime ministerial candidate. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP won 31 out of 40 constituencies in Bihar. IJD won only 2 seats.

2014 May 17: Nitish resigns after taking responsibility for the defeat. Jidanram Manji became the Chief Minister.

2015 Feb,22: 4th term CM.

2015 Nov. 20: Lalu’s 5th term as Chief Minister on behalf of the Rajya Sabha + Congress alliance in the Assembly elections.

July 27, 2017: Chief Minister for the 6th time in the BJP alliance after leaving the alliance.

Nov 16, 2020: BJP wins 74 in 2020 assembly elections. IJT won only in 43. Nitish is the 7th Chief Minister.

2022 Aug. 10: Once again, the BJP left the alliance and became the Chief Minister for the 8th time on behalf of the Rajya Sabha + Congress alliance.
