Cooking gas subsidy should be provided to all and the Tamil Nadu government should reduce the petrol and diesel tax, said Pamaka founder Dr. Ramadass.
Petrol. As the price of diesel and cooking gas cylinders continued to rise, people were greatly affected. In this situation, the price of petrol has gone up by Rs. 8, the central government reduced the price of diesel by Rs. Similarly, a subsidy of Rs. 200 per gas cylinder was announced under the Ujwala scheme for the poor. Following this, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that the state governments should come forward to reduce petrol and diesel prices. Various political parties have been commenting on the move by the central government. Pama founder Dr. Ramdas posted on Twitter in that regard.
In it, “Rs. 8, Rs. 6 The reduction of excise duty by the Central Government is welcome. For a cooking gas cylinder, Rs. 200 grant has been announced. But, it does not benefit two-thirds of those who have a gas connection. The cooking gas subsidy is applicable only to the beneficiaries of the Ujwala scheme for those living below the poverty line. Their number is only 9 crore. Out of the total 30 crore gas connections, 22 crore connections will not get this subsidy.
Not only the people living below the poverty line but also the poor & middle class people cannot afford the increase in gas prices. Extending the gas subsidy to those families would not cost the federal government more. Therefore, the gas subsidy should be extended. While the central government has reduced the excise duty on fuel in two installments, the Tamil Nadu government also has an obligation to reduce the value added tax. Therefore, the state government should come forward to reduce petrol and diesel taxes and ease the burden on the people, ”said Ramdas.
