Chef Seongjae Ahn said he saw a meme that edited his appearance in the Netflix original ‘Black and White Chef: Cooking Class War.’
On the 18th, lifestyle magazine ‘Singles’ released Ahn Seong-jae’s visual pictorial. In the pictorial, Seongjae Ahn created a variety of styling styles.
‘Black and White Chef’ depicts a <a href="https://time.news/even-hollywood-actors-fall-in-love-with-kimchi-gaining-global-popularity-as-a-hip-healthy-food/” title=”Even Hollywood actors fall in love with kimchi… Gaining global popularity as a ‘hip healthy food’”>cooking competition between 20 famous chefs ‘White Sujeo’ and 80 veteran chefs ‘Black Spoon’. Within the first week of its release, it ranked first in Netflix’s global top 10 non-English TV categories.
When asked if he expected this kind of popularity, Seongjae Ahn said, “I didn’t expect or intend this kind of boom from the beginning. “When I looked around at myself, at the chefs around me, and at the business, I felt like there was a need for some new kind of vitality,” he said.
He also said, “As one of those who takes food very seriously, it would be nice if the chefs did not make us laugh, but showed their strong and persistent pride in their work. I hoped that through such rawness, a great program could be created that could actually help the restaurant industry. Thankfully, the production team fully understood and accepted my opinion.”
Regarding the reason why ‘Black and White Chef’ asked the chefs about the intention behind their food, he said, “Everyone probably came out with a special skill, but of course it had to taste good, and I asked about their intention to have more differentiation than this.”
In addition, “No matter how expert I am, it is a dangerous idea to believe that my evaluation is absolute. I didn’t think it was a fair opportunity for the chefs if I took a bite and decided whether it was delicious or not without listening to the chef’s intentions. He said, “As a chef, it is natural for me to ask about intention as I am a chef who executes things from my imagination through a series of tasks and turns them into a final product.”
We also asked if he had seen the edited memes of Chef Ahn from ‘Black and White Chef.’ Chef Ahn said, “Even though I didn’t want to see it, people around me sent it to me so I watched it. “What do you want to talk about?” he said with a skeptical look.
When the editor responded, “A meme of Chef Ahn Seong-jae who is excited to knock down Chef Choi Hyun-seok?” Ahn Sung-jae responded, “Still, that’s the most unfair. I really didn’t act with that in mind. “It was my own way of expressing my affection for the fact that there are so many different flavors,” he said.
“And wasn’t there a photo of Chef Choi Hyun-seok smiling while looking at his back? In my mind, I really thought that the chef was really passionate about it, that it was amazing and cool. But they continued it that way,” he explained.
The behind-the-scenes story of ‘Black and White Chef’ and Ahn Seong-jae’s visual pictorial can be seen in the November issue of Singles and on the website.
