After attending the East Asia Summit in Laos, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will return to Washington rather than travel to Germany and Angola as previously planned due to the postponement of President Joe Biden’s visit to those countries.

As Day.Az reports with reference to RBC, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller announced this on Tuesday.

“Secretary Blinken had planned to join the President in Germany and Angola, but given the postponement of the President’s trip, he now expects to return from Laos to Washington,” Miller said.

Earlier on Tuesday, the State Department said Blinken would travel to Laos from October 8 to 11 to attend the East Asia Summit.

After his trip to Laos, Blinken was expected to visit Germany and Angola, where he would accompany Biden.

However, the White House announced on Tuesday that Biden had rescheduled his flight to Germany because he decided to personally oversee preparations for Hurricane Milton approaching Florida.

“Given the forecast path and severity of Hurricane Milton, President Biden is postponing travel to Germany and Angola to monitor hurricane preparations and response efforts,” the Biden administration said in a statement.

It was initially planned that the president would fly from the United States on October 10: first to Germany, and then to Angola. His trip was expected to last until October 15. In Germany, Biden was scheduled to participate in a contact group meeting on Ukraine.
