BNP Leader Salahuddin Ahmed Returning to Bangladesh After 9 Years
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed is returning home to Bangladesh after spending nine years in India. He is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka from Delhi on Sunday (August 11) afternoon.
BNP media cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan confirmed on Saturday (August 10) that Salahuddin Ahmed will travel from Delhi to Dhaka on Sunday.
Earlier this month, Salahuddin Ahmed obtained a travel pass to return to his home country. This comes after he was acquitted in an illegal entry case in India in 2018. However, his return was delayed due to a lack of a valid passport.
Salahuddin Ahmed was previously a close aide to former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and was elected to Parliament in 2001. He held various government positions during the BNP-Jamaat coalition government. He was arrested in Meghalaya in 2014 while serving as the joint general secretary of the BNP.
The BNP party elevated him to the Standing Committee while he was still in detention in India.
