Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), his wife, former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro and their allies used an opinion issued by the Attorney General’s Office (Procuraduría General de la República) to remain silent during their simultaneous statement before the Federal Police this Thursday (31 ).

The Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Augusto Aras, asked the Supreme Court (STF) to refer the investigation into the digital militias, which includes the proceedings on the alleged scheme for the purchase, repurchase and return of jewelry received by Bolsonaro, at the first instance, which would remove it from the jurisdiction of Alexandre de Moraes.

Since 2020, when the investigation approached the closest circle of the former president, the Prosecutor’s Office has been trying to archive it. From the beginning of the Lula (PT) government, his position changed slightly, supporting the investigation into the adulteration of Bolsonaro’s vaccination card data, however, he has maintained the request to transfer the case of the jewels to justice of Guarulhos (SP).

The former president, who usually speaks off the cuff, this time was silent. Michelle, for her part, published a statement on her social networks highlighting the position of the Prosecutor’s Office. “It is not about remaining silent. I am completely willing to speak before the competent authority and I cannot submit to testify in an inappropriate place, as the representative of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) has already expressly stated; the Federal Supreme Court is not the appropriate court to deal with this investigation,” he said.

Mauro Cid, his father, the lawyer Frederick Wassef and the adviser Osmar Crivelatti did testify. In addition to the former president and Michelle, the adviser Marcelo Câmara and the lawyer Fabio Wajngarten, Bolsonaro’s former secretary of Social Communication, remained silent.

The agents in charge of the investigation scheduled all the statements at the same time, with the intention of minimizing the possibility of creating a previous version and detecting possible contradictions between the suspects.
