With meteorology predicting more heavy rain, the Civil Defense on Tuesday evening ordered the immediate evacuation of residents in the regions of Jablanica and Konjic, which were most affected by Friday’s floods.
The authorities of the canton of Herzegovina-Neretva said that “the death toll from floods in the canton reached 19.”
Three more people were found dead in the Canton of Central Bosnia.
On Friday, Bosnia saw floods and landslides that cut roads, bridges and railways, leaving many areas isolated from the rest of the country.
The authorities continue to work to reconnect the areas, especially the village of Dunja Jablanica, located about 70 kilometers south-west of the capital, Sarajevo, which apparently suffered the worst of the heavy rains, which left it isolated from the rest of the country.
Authorities said rescue teams are still searching for six missing people, two of them in Konjic and the other four in Jablanica.
The government of the Muslim-Croatian Federation, one of the two entities that make up Bosnia and Republika Srpska, declared a state of natural disaster and established a crisis cell.
The European Union’s civil protection mechanism has also been activated, and rescue teams have been sent to four countries in the region at the end of the week.
