An unprecedented event occurred in the Congress of Mexico City (CDMX), where deputies of the PRI, PRD, MC, PT y Morena They came together for a reason that has to do with Chapultepec Forest.
Wearing t-shirts and banners alluding to the issue, the opposition and Morena deputies came out to defend the Chapultepec Forest spaceduring the session of October 18, 2024.
However, not all parties came together to advocate for Chapultepec Forest, as the only party that decided to remain neutral was the National Action Party (PAN): we tell you why.
Bosque de Chapultepec united Morena and the opposition for a noble cause
The CDMX deputies, both Morena and the opposition, joined in a joint press conference to defend the Chapultepec Forest before the interests of a private real estate company.
Everything arose from a court ruling that orders the Legislative Branch modify land use of a part of the Chapultepec Forest, so that it becomes part of the private enterprise to build a residential tower.

Likewise, they assure that the necessary maintenance was not given to the property to allocate it to ecological conservation, which is why they demand that that part of the Chapultepec Forest be returned to them.

To this defense of Chapultepec Forest, The president of the Board of Directors of the local Congress, Martha Ávila, joined, who pointed out that they will give the most “energetic and vigorous” legal defensepolitical and social of this ecological heritage “to its ultimate consequences.”
“The ecological value of the forest is a fundamental issue that in itself entails a greater good than the city. “This sovereignty is determined to defend its integrity.”

For her part, the coordinator of the Morena parliamentary group, Xóchitl Bravo, He alleged that “no green area in the city that provides environmental services will suffer changes in land use.”
The PRI joined this same opinion, arguing that it will defend the Chapultepec Forest space. However, the motion was not supported by the PAN.
