In the 17th century, Devan (Arjun Asokan) of the Panar clan wanders into the forest region of South Malabar. He takes shelter in a dilapidated house there. Koduman Potti (Mammootty) and his cook (Siddharth Bharathan) live in Angi Manak. Koduman Potti allows him to stay in that house after hearing the song of God from Panar clan.

Devan, who starts sensing mysteries from the day he enters the house, knows the identity of Koduman Poti and decides to leave. Devan, who fails in his attempt to escape from the house, searches for mysteries in the house and ways to escape from there. What happens after that? What is the mystery in the house? Did God escape from there? Isn’t it? That is the story of ‘Pramayugam’.

A very simple story. Rahul Sathasivan has directed the film in such a way that even those who don’t know Malayalam can easily understand it. Shot entirely in black-and-white, the film creates an atmosphere of mystery in every scene, leaving the audience enthralled.

Kannur Squad, Kadhal The Core, and now ‘Brahmayugam’, everything Mammootty has touched is rocking. His performance has the power to renew itself film after film. His performance with dedication to the character, keeping away from the mega star status, is worth praising. His performance dominates the film as he effortlessly handles the negative shadow character very naturally.

The way Arjun Ashokan as Panan conveys every emotion like fear, hand position is impressive. The film’s cinematographer Shennath Jalal’s camera has cast a shadow of horror throughout the film. His excellent lightings accurately capture the emotional expressions of the characters. Music composer Christo Xavier’s background music also adds to the vibrancy of the scenes. Art director Jyotish Shankar’s work is amazing.

‘Pramayugam’ is a must-see for those who are interested in horror and mystery folk tales. Currently available in Tamil on Sony Live OTD. | Detailed Analysis: Pramayugam | Black-white political chess
