Brandy Apologizes After Abruptly Leaving Stage During ‘The Boy Is Mine’ Tour Stop in Chicago
A sudden health concern and technical difficulties prompted R&B singer Brandy to cut short her performance in Chicago on Thursday night, leaving fans disappointed and sparking concern for her well-being. The incident occurred during a joint concert with fellow artist Monica, as part of their highly anticipated “The Boy Is Mine” tour.
According to a report from TMZ, Brandy stopped mid-song and addressed the audience, stating, “Give me one second, y’all, I gotta get my…” before leaving the stage. Monica, seemingly caught off guard, continued performing their hit song “The Boy Is Mine” without Brandy.
The singer subsequently took to social media to offer an explanation and apology to her fans. Brandy revealed she was experiencing dehydration and “feelings of wanting to faint,” leading to a collective decision with those involved to prioritize her health. She also cited issues with the sound production of the show as contributing to the difficulty of continuing the performance.
“To My Dear Fans in Chicago, thank you all for the overwhelming love, support, and most importantly—your prayers,” Brandy wrote in a social media post. “I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago. After weeks of non-stop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint, everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.”
Brandy emphasized her attempt to persevere despite feeling unwell. “I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling ok. With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production. I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts,” she stated.
The artist expressed gratitude to Monica for her professionalism in continuing the show and to the concert crew for their support. She confirmed she sought medical attention following the performance and is taking necessary precautions for future shows.
“I’m deeply grateful to my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace and professionalism and the entire crew for their continued care and support. I went from the arena to see a doctor nearby and have taken the proper precautions to help me move forward. Your understanding, patience, and unwavering belief mean the world to me,” Brandy added.
Looking ahead, Brandy expressed optimism about returning to the stage. “I look forward to returning to the stage stronger and more grateful than ever alongside my girl, Monica, tonight in Indianapolis,” she concluded.
This incident follows a similar event in September, when singer Lola Young collapsed on stage during a performance at the All Things Go Music Festival in New York while singing her 2024 song “Conceited.” Young had previously informed the audience she had been feeling unwell for a couple of days.
These recent events underscore the physical and mental demands placed on performing artists and the importance of prioritizing health and safety during tours.
