The BRICS countries intend to develop conditions for potential members of the association to join the organization. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil Mauro Vieiratransmits Day.Az with reference to TASS.

“Heads of state at the summit [БРИКС в Казани 22-24 ноября] will discuss or make a decision on the format in which the expansion of BRICS will continue,” he said, broadcast on the government’s YouTube channel. “In addition, rules will be established for new BRICS partners to join the organization.”

The minister also noted the increase in the number of countries that want to join the association. “Many countries, perhaps about 30 states, wish to join BRICS at some stage,” he said.

Earlier in October, Burkina Faso, Cuba and Sri Lanka announced their interest in joining BRICS.

The BRICS group was founded in 2006; in 2011, South Africa joined the original composition (Brazil, Russia, India and China). Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia became full BRICS members on January 1, 2024. The association is non-bloc in nature and is not directed against third parties.

On January 1, 2024, the chairmanship of BRICS passed to Russia. It will last until the end of the year and includes more than 200 events that have a wide range of topics. The main event during the Russian presidency will be the BRICS summit, which will be held in Kazan in October.
