Illegal migrants who have been refused asylum in Britain will be offered thousands of pounds to voluntarily move to Rwanda. It is about a new scheme for voluntary departure from the country, which complements London’s plans to deport migrants who arrived in the country illegally, DPA and BTA reported.

The scheme is designed to voluntarily remove migrants who do not have a legal right to remain in the UK but cannot be returned to their home country. It will target people who do not have sufficient grounds to be granted refugee status and who are able to be quickly resettled in Rwanda, which the UK government considers a safe third country.

The scheme is in addition to the existing Voluntary Migrant Return Scheme operated by the UK Home Office, which offers migrants £3,000 (US$3,800) in financial assistance to leave UK territory and return to their country of origin.

A Home Office spokesman said: “Last year 19,000 people were voluntarily removed from the UK and this is an important part of our efforts to tackle illegal migration. We are exploring options for voluntary relocation of those who have no right to be here, in the UK They will be relocated to Rwanda, which is ready to take in people who want to start a new life but do not have the legal right to stay in the UK.
