Clara Brugada announced that in Mexico City the permanent driver’s license can be processed at a cost of 1,500 pesos; whose economic resources will be used to implement a large road safety program in the capital.
The Head of Government, Clara Brugada, said that this day she will send an initiative to the Congress of Mexico City for a modification to the Tax Code that allows permanent licenses to be processed in the country’s capital.
The program is initially projected to operate from November 2024 to December 2025, during which time licenses can be requested in the modules of the Mobility Secretariat (Semovi) of Mexico City.
The capital’s president announced that the resources obtained with the licenses will be administered in a public trust that will have no structure and will be allocated to public infrastructure, transportation and mobility works.
The objective is that “we can carry out the best road safety program for Mexico City,” said the head of Government.
Likewise, he specified that the permanent license may be processed by people who already have a license automatically, while those who apply for the first time must pass an exam.
During the announcement, it was specified that all people must pay the amount of 1,500 pesos, regardless of whether they recently processed a license.
Initially, the permanent license can be acquired digitally, however it can also be obtained physically by those who wish to have the print.
The estimated number of licenses processed during the first year is between 800 thousand and one million, so the amount collected would be between one thousand 200 and one thousand 500 million pesos.
