Tomorrow begins the construction of the trusted code of the machines, which is a key stage of their verification. This was announced at a press conference in Pleven by the acting Minister of Innovation and Growth Rosen Karadimov, appointed by the Council of Ministers as the coordinator of the organizational and technical preparation for the elections.
He emphasized that representatives of all parties and coalitions registered with the Central Election Commission (CEC) are invited. I want to make a strong appeal to these people to attend this process as it ensures the security of the code itself, the minister said.
He was adamant that each of the processes of authentication, parameterization of the machines and before their shipment will be much more saturated from the point of view of specialists, much more guaranteed, much more public.
In this campaign, the Ministry of Electronic Management will provide 50 more IT-specialists to the CEC, who can be actively involved in the process of checking the machines before their expedition, Karadimov added. He also said that, if in the last election the representative sample was about 660 checked machines out of 13 thousand, then they hope that now the number will be much larger, at least 1600 checked machines.
Karadimov recalled that the CEC decided not only not to vote with old paper, but to destroy all rolls of old paper for machine voting.
This decision of the CEC is a full priority of the control of the executive power. We have collected information from all regional governors. At the district level, all rolls are destroyed. We have a problem with some of the municipalities, as neither the Council of Ministers nor the regional governors can oblige the mayors of municipalities to destroy the rolls or provide information. Currently, we have 61 municipalities that have not fulfilled this commitment. I will have the specific list in a few hours and we will do everything possible to make this process as compact as possible in the next few days, said the caretaker minister.
According to him, the organization of the elections is good, all deadlines are respected, the state machine is in full mobilization and in full readiness.
Karadimov held a working meeting in Pleven regarding the government’s commitments for material and technical provision of the upcoming parliamentary elections. In his capacity as a coordinator for the implementation of these activities, he spoke with the regional governors of the North-Western region and the directors of the territorial units of the Main Directorate “Civil Registration and Administrative Services” in the administrative centers of the respective regions.
