Bulldogs Dominate Cincinnati 84-65 in Holiday Hoopsgiving Showdown

Georgia secured a decisive victory over Cincinnati, 84-65, on Saturday at State Farm Arena, improving their season record to 9-1. The Bulldogs’ performance was highlighted by a career-high scoring effort and a strong team showing on both ends of the court.

Cain Leads Georgia to Victory

Blue Cain, a junior guard, spearheaded the Bulldogs’ offensive attack with a remarkable 22 points, marking a new personal best. He wasn’t alone in contributing to the scoring surge, as Jeremiah Wilkinson added 17 points, Somto Cyril matched his career-high with 13 points, and Smurf Millender chipped in with 10.

The Bulldogs’ win also saw them outperform Cincinnati in key statistical categories, including rebounds (41-37), assists (18-17), bench points (23-22), and blocks (6-3). Georgia’s deep bench was also on full display, with 11 players seeing action in the game.

Second-Half Surge Seals the Deal

Despite a closely contested first half, Georgia reclaimed the lead with 16:13 remaining in the second half and never relinquished it. This victory marks the largest neutral site win for the Bulldogs since a 21-point triumph over Georgia Southern on November 21, 2001. The team demonstrated resilience, overcoming their largest deficit of the season – 11 points – to secure the win.

Coach White Praises Team Execution

Georgia Head Coach Mike White acknowledged the game’s competitive nature, stating, “The game was a lot closer than the final score indicated.” He emphasized the team’s ability to capitalize on opportunities in transition and at the free-throw line.

White also highlighted the effectiveness of the team’s zone and press attacks, particularly against Cincinnati’s formidable defense, which he described as “phenomenal” and “eighth in the country coming into today’s game defensively.” He added, “I thought we executed pretty well. Passed pretty well. Had five turnovers in the second half.”

Addressing halftime adjustments, the coach explained, “Watching the film, our attention to detail with their shooters was not where it needed to be. Our blocking out was not where it needed to be.” He emphasized the importance of controlling tempo and maintaining offensive spacing.

Regarding the team’s shooting performance, White noted, “Every day. Let’s make all of them. Sometimes when you’re playing against high-level defenses, that’s what happens.” He expressed satisfaction with the quality of the team’s shot selection, emphasizing the importance of confidence and attacking the basket.
