The Bushido family has a fairly public life. His daughter recently used her fame to draw attention to an illness.

Berlin – Bushido is considered one of the most famous rappers in Germany. But not only the musician, but also his wife Anna-Maria Ferchichi and their eleven-year-old daughter Laila Ferchichi are making more of a name for themselves on social media. The young Laila surprised everyone with a courageous statement about her health. As she said herself, she lives with the so-called “Marcus Gunn Syndrome”.

Bushido’s daughter goes public after video confusion: She has rare Marcus Gunn syndrome

The motivation for her statement was a video that the girl published on Instagram in which she is eating chocolate with her little sister. It is worth noting that her eyes are always drooping when she chews. The video can no longer be seen on her account, but is available on RTL, among others.

“A lot of people asked me yesterday ‘What’s wrong with one eye’, ‘Why does it move when you eat?’ said Laila in a video that was published the next day and was also available to the station. “It’s called Marcus Gunn syndrome and only three percent (of people) in the world have it.” She explains that it is a link between the eye and the jaw. When she then eats ice cream, the eye turns up again. Sjögren’s syndrome is also first noticed in the eyes and mouth.

Laila emphasizes that the syndrome does not cause her any pain. Doctors Vijayalakshmi A. Senthilkumar and Koushik Tripathy also confirm this in a specialist report to be published in the US in 2023 National Library of Medicine was published. According to doctors, the rare syndrome is also known as the “Marcus Gunn jaw-wink phenomenon”. It can be congenital but can also occur “over a wide range of ages,” the report says.

The eyelid not only rises during chewing movements, but also hangs partially or completely in a state of rest, so that it is different from the other eyelid even when it is closed. Usually, the syndrome occurs only on one side and the left side of the person, but in exceptional cases it can also be present on both sides. Men and women are equally affected. It is considered rare and there is no concrete number of those affected.

According to doctors, the syndrome can theoretically be corrected medically and surgically. However, opinions regarding the surgical treatment of the syndrome are particularly controversial. Because in an emergency, the eyelid movement could worsen. At least Bushido’s daughter Laila seems to be recovering without treatment for now. In the video she suggests that the syndrome does not affect her.
