Ca la Fresca remedy: “The reality is that now we accept each other more as we are”

Ca la Fresca remedy stage closes this Friday night (10:30 p.m.) at the premises of the Cultural Association Apaga La Tele (ATV), in Sarrià de Ter, with a concert alongside the Ostriches. The rock, pop and psychedelia band from Arbuci puts an end to a long season in which, without thinking of it as a tour, they have not stopped offering concerts all over Catalonia, also reaching the Balearic Islands, and in which have established themselves as one of the most exciting proposals on the alternative music scene in the Girona regions.

“We have decided to take a break, although in fact, only until next year, because already we are preparing a new album” Explain Xantal Rodríguezvoice and guitar of a project that in 2021 was a semi-finalist in the Sona9 competition and that last year made its recording debut with a work of the same title published by The Indian Runners, seal under which there are also formations like At the Ludwig Band, Rombo o Tarta Relena others.

Born in 2020, in the midst of a pandemic, Remei de Ca la Fresca is the result of a group of musicians who frequented the jams that took place in Arbúcies. “In our village there have always been many musicians and many artists. We have benefited a lot from the small festivals that have been held here and from the music scene that has gradually been building” comments Xantal, who adds about the Arbuci scene that “we all have the same character, because it’s obviously very different to make music from here than to make it from Barcelona”.

Asked about the balance of the band’s past three years, Xantal points out that they now know better where to go: “at the beginning we made music without too many pretensions, but as we have been making songs and concerts, everything has taken on more color” assures the native, who also points out that “at first we thought we couldn’t make songs very different from each other, but in the end we stopped having these doubts. The reality is that now we accept each other more as we are”.

Two versions to fill the concert repertoire

The artist also notes that the live repertoire has “changed” a lot since the release of the album. And it is that the band has surprised its fans this 2023 with two versions in Catalan which have seen the light in the form of a single: “Nascut descarat”, which adapts the classic “Born Slippy” dels Underworld and “All we want is to occupy the villa”, a fun version of the “Paper Plans” by singer MIA “The two versions came out because we liked them and very much after the live show,” comments the singer and guitarist of the musical project she shares with Artur Piera, Víctor Inskipp and Iago Rueda.

“If we only played the songs from the first album at the concerts, we wouldn’t even have any to begin with MIA’s came out a bit to fill the time. We weren’t actually going to record it. But Marià Codina dels Estruç suggested that we record it because it could be like the theme of the summer,” he adds. Xantal Rodríguez believes that sometimes these “more commercial” themes can connect more with people, given that they are well known .
