The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved financing of $113.9 million for El Salvador with the objective of developing the Surf City Program – Phase I. This project will focus on improving the road and tourism infrastructure of the Pacific coast, also integrating safety measures. adaptation to climate change.

The initiative will allow the expansion to four lanes of the second section of the CA02 highway, covering 8.67 kilometers of road infrastructure, pedestrian network and bicycle lanes in the districts of La Libertad and Tamanique. In addition, the construction of the Pacific Corridor Interchange will be carried out in the district of Acajutla, improving the connection between the Litoral highway and the highway to Acajutla, with works that will include advanced drainage systems and natural barriers to mitigate the effects of the change. climatic.

According to Alejandro Zelaya, CABEI director for El Salvador, “during the September CABEI board meeting, we approved $113.9 million to expand the Surf City Phase I highway and other works that will improve the experience of our visitors and the lives of the inhabitants of the area. ”. The improvement of this infrastructure is expected to reduce vehicle congestion and transportation times for more than 2,600 vehicles that travel through the area daily, benefiting both tourists and residents.

The project also includes the installation of a wastewater treatment plant in the El Palmarcito-El Sunzal area, with the capacity to benefit 10,000 people. This plant will use energy-efficient technologies with a low carbon footprint, allowing the reuse of water, which will contribute to the protection of the beaches and biodiversity of the area.
