A group of Cuban opponents made public the “Camagüey Declaration”, where they stand on the side of the people and the #17M protesters.

The signatories are Bárbaro de Céspedes, Iris Mariño, Ailex Marcano, José Luis Tan, Madelyn Sardiñas and Henry Constantín.

“We, Cubans, who share the same problems as those who have publicly demonstrated in different parts of the country, and who, like them, suffer shortcomings and needs, suffer from the economic and social crisis, and feel the same desire for freedom and prosperity, we want affirm our conviction that to solve Cuba’s problems it is necessary for Cubans to take these six steps,” They indicated in a video published on social networks.

The Cuban opponents then listed the following:

1️.- Respect and support for peaceful demonstrations that demand freedom and better living conditions.

2.- The elimination of all barriers that absurdly slow down the economy, so that the development of the private sector is favored, and imports, agriculture and livestock, trade, property and private enterprise are promoted, as well as end of obstacles to the private exercise of professions and investment.

3️.- The release of political prisoners and the cessation of any persecution of Cubans for expressing, organizing or demonstrating peacefully.

4️.- The immediate redirection of state resources wasted on political repression and propaganda, on the so-called “mass organizations”, on the construction of hotels or on inefficient bureaucracy, towards sectors in crisis such as public health, the generation of electricity, and care for the elderly and other more vulnerable groups.

5️.- The elimination of the control of the Communist Party over the constitution, the courts, the armed and police forces, the economy, national and local governments and the electoral system.

6️.- The immediate calling of presidential, general and legislative elections, open and multi-party, under internationally recognized democratic standards and with independent observation, and to be held within a period of no more than six months.

This call by these opponents has had an impact on social networks and so far many Cubans inside and outside the Island have echoed this statement.

“May God take care of you and bless you and everyone. They are very brave and I hope Cuba is free soon. This no longer makes sense nor is it fair, the government is making fun of the citizens!!!! My admiration to all!!!”, commented @dianam.cortina.

The Internet user who identifies herself as @adrianna_kurver added: “If there were Cubans like them, Cuba would be free! My respects, support and gratitude. I wish Lees luck and support them in whatever way I can.”
