It is with immense sadness and deep dismay that we learned of the death of Mr. Willy Robert Siewe Mbetzoua, a brilliant lawyer recently recruited by La Régionale Bank. Savagely stabbed during an attack of rare violence in Douala on the night of March 8 to 9, he finally succumbed to his injuries this Friday, plunging family, colleagues and friends into an ocean of grief.
A talented and promising lawyer who is broke and on the rise
As exclusively revealed by 237online.com, Mr. Willy Siewe was a very talented lawyer and jurist. A doctoral student in law, he practiced at the Kigali bar in Rwanda and was preparing to take the oath to the Cameroonian bar. Recruited only a month ago as a lawyer at the headquarters of La Régionale Bank in Yaoundé, this prince from Bakotcheu (Western region) had a more than promising professional future.
But this was without taking into account the barbarity and cruelty of his attackers. On the fateful night of March 8 to 9, while passing through Douala, Mr. Willy Siewe was savagely attacked and stabbed at least six times. An act of incredible violence which left those close to him stunned and revolted.
A 10-day ordeal before succumbing to his injuries
Seriously injured, particularly in the chest with a deep cut, Mr. Willy Siewe was urgently admitted to the Douala general hospital. But despite doctors’ best efforts, the internal bleeding could not be stopped. For 10 long days, the young lawyer fought like a lion, undergoing multiple surgeries in the hope of surviving.
Tragically, the infection of his wounds finally got the better of him. While he seemed to be doing better and was even considering leaving the hospital this Friday to continue his outpatient care, Mr. Willy Siewe was carried away in a few minutes by a devastating febrile attack. A terrible shock for his parents and friends who did not have time to say goodbye to him.
Anger and indignation after this revolting assassination
As could be expected, this death, as brutal as it is unjust, arouses a wave of emotion and anger throughout Cameroon. On social networks, messages are pouring in to pay tribute to this “exceptional jurist” and this “great human being”but also to express his disgust at this umpteenth act of blind violence which is plunging the country into mourning.
The body of Mr. Willy Siewe was transported and deposited at the morgue in Bafang, his hometown, where he will be buried in the coming days. There is no doubt that his funeral will bring together a huge crowd of parents, friends and colleagues who will come to mourn this prodigy son who left too soon.
Mr. Willy Siewe still had so much to bring to his country and his profession. But barbarians decided otherwise, mowing him down in the middle of his rise in the most atrocious way. A murder that must not go unpunished. We will follow the progress of the investigation and the response of the justice system with the greatest attention. In the meantime, all our thoughts are with his family and loved ones who have suffered so hard. Rest in peace Willy.
